Things to do with the kids over the summer holidays

The summer holidays are just getting started! With many days ahead and a heatwave to contend with, we’re sharing what we’re most looking forward to doing with ours kids over the next few weeks. However you want to entertain them we’ve got some great ideas that will appeal to tots and teens alike…

The Peter Rabbit Garden Adventure

Through a magical mix of storytelling, live performance, and puppetry the world of Beatrix Potter will come alive in Blenheim Palace’s walled garden as you take part in the rescue of Peter from Mr. McGregor’s rabbit pie shaped plan. This 50 minute immersive adventure is a must for any child who loves to explore the great outdoors, any family who treasures what you can learn from being in nature and any fan of the most beloved rabbit in children’s literature.

Dear Zoo at the Postal Museum

The Postal Museum is hosting a fantastic programme of activities to celebrate 40 years of the best-selling book Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell, in partnership with Macmillan Children’s Books. Starting from mid July to end of August, there’s so much going on – from museum trails and storytelling to arts and crafts and meeting the author himself!

Paddington Marmalade Messiness

Going to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival this summer? While you’re there, you and the family can help find Paddington! Marmalade Messiness’ is an outdoor adventure for families who love to immerse themselves in storytelling, theatre and puppetry suitable for all ages. The Activity Area is where children can release their creativity with activities to keep the little ones entertained, including colouring in, dot to dot and competitions! Join Paddington for a unique adventure at Dalkeith Country Park.

Kusama’s Obliteration Room

This unique experience at the Tate is an artistic child’s dream! In partnership with UNIQLO, the Obliteration Room starts out as a perfectly white apartment and over the course of a few weeks, families are invited to transform the sea of white with lots of colourful dots to create a playful masterpiece. Starting from 23rd of July, every surface of the room is there to be covered with their artistic flair, so grab the family and go absolutely dotty!

Medieval Season at Eltham Palace and Gardens

Mix in a little history to their summer with an immersive experience at Eltham Palace and find out exactly what it was like to live during Medieval times! Enjoy jester workshops, have-a-go archery, storytelling, squire training as well as lessons in courtly etiquette. Over the course of the summer, there will be lots of different activities going on week to week for children to take part in. Joust do it!

Be Gripped

For the daredevils and thrill-seekers… Get their adrenaline pumping at the outdoor activity centre, Gripped! They can go wild on high ropes, zip lines, speed slides and much, much more. It’s newly opened so you’ll be among the first to experience this new aerial adventure.


GoBoat is an amazing self-driven boat experience which is great for all ages but especially for older kids. With a choice of stunning views along Paddington’s Regent Canal, Canary Wharf’s London Docklands or the River Thames near Kingston Bridge, it’s a guaranteed day of family fun that will be one to remember!

Warner Bros Summer exhibition

We love Warner Bros! This summer they’ve got the brilliant Mandrakes and Magical Creatures exhibition on from 1st July to 12th September as well as all the other magic that awaits. Visit Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse, see the new scale-model of the Weasley’s burrow and spot all manner of creatures from Cornish Pixies, Dumbledore’s favourite Phoenix Fawkes and the Monster Book of Monsters!
