Head's Up

St George’s is a place where girls flourish academically, creatively, physically and morally, where risks can be taken, lessons are learnt, and challenges are welcomed. By developing the girls’ love of learning and individual talents, they become confident, young women.

The inside track from a current parent

St George’s manages to pull off something really quite special. It has all the advantages of a small school with a wonderfully close environment and a genuine family atmosphere, but also punches above its weight boasting amazing facilities (such as its brand new swimming pool) and offers an extraordinary range of experiences to our two elder daughters. Between the two of them, in the space of their first two years, they have sung in The Vatican, lobbied at the Model United Nations Conference in Bilbao, immersed themselves in the history of Berlin and, for the younger one, had the rich experience of a 3-month exchange to Melbourne. All that as well as the more conventional mix of field trips, science lectures and visiting speakers. Our youngest can’t wait to join them next year.

We have been impressed by the real academic leadership at St George’s and its very proactive and flexible approach to both support work and extension work. Our girls are encouraged, motivated and inspired, and regularly come home gushing about a concept or a notion, a teacher or a lesson.

There just seems to be so much talent here, whether on stage or in the art department or on the sports field: it must be the case that the school is truly finding what the girls are good at and nurturing that talent.

In our first two Speech Days we have been reassured that the leavers are destined for a varied range of ‘what next’s, be that top universities, art schools, performing arts colleges, or intrepid-sounding gap years.

What makes us different

We are all about ambition and determination – no matter what the task, from academic study to the lacrosse pitch. Being an all-girls school means that the girls are not inhibited or stereotyped and girls can stay younger, longer.

We also believe in the importance of having fun and this is never more evident than at the annual House Parties where, following a themed supper, parents and staff are treated to a superb evening of entertainment put on by the girls in that house – from First Year to Sixth Form. Regular socials with local boys’ schools such as Eton, Harrow and Papplewick are also a highlight.

At St George’s, our deliberately small size means that we know every girl and that boarder and day girl integration is excellent particularly as all day girls stay every evening to do prep and activities. The small class sizes also contribute to our excellent examination results, and many St George’s leavers go on to university, with 74% securing places at their first choice university over the last three years.

Recent destinations include Russell Group institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Durham and Bristol, in addition to international institutions such as NYU and Queen’s University, Canada.

Our location is also very special, with a beautiful site just 5 minutes from Ascot High Street. This is particularly good for London parents who see the attraction of a weekly boarding school just outside of the M25 which offers families the best of both worlds; a school in the country but weekends as a family, made even easier by our weekly London Bus.

On-site facilities are excellent across the board, and ongoing investment gives pupils access to regular new developments and modern facilities. Recent developments include a Sixth Form cafe and a state of the art library, with a 25m six-lane indoor swimming pool opened in September 2019. The food at St George’s is truly worthy of a Michelin star! Girls regularly enjoy moules marinière, katsu chicken or fillet steak.

Termly open mornings. Please check the website for up to date information. Bookings can be made via the website or by contacting the Admissions Team. Families applying in the year of entry may also contact Admissions to meet privately with the Headmistress and have a personal tour of the school.
