“Pangbourne is a place where the individual matters. We are committed to the personal development of our pupils in the fullest sense. They are encouraged to work hard towards academic success and we are proud of the results which they achieve, but just as important is the development of their characters.”
The inside track from a current parent
We have two very different characters in our children, and Pangbourne has been brilliant for both of them.
We initially chose Pangbourne because of its community and family feel and for the individual care that each child receives. It’s been brilliant for both children: one started off shy and unsure of himself – he’s more of an introspective artist. The other is outgoing and sporty but with a short attention span. The teachers and systems at the College have been excellent at getting the best out of both boys, academically, socially and in terms of their emotional development.
The College has a set of Flag Values, and we feel like they really work hard to instil these in all students. It’s not just marketing – the Flag Values are included as part of day to day life, in positive marks they get in lessons, and in termly awards. They have taught our children to be resilient, kind, hardworking, socially confident young adults who care about others and the world around them.
As parents we love...
- The individual attention is outstanding: from our children’s Houseparents to their academic tutors,
- We love the community atmosphere. It feels like family
- We love the small size – everyone knows everyone really well
As pupils we love...
- The family atmosphere in their Division and love boarding
- The lifelong friendships they are making and the good relationships with their teachers
- That they can be themselves
What makes us different
Sport plays a significant part of life for our students at Pangbourne and we consistently punch well above our weight across all sports given the size of the school. We are one of only four schools to have won the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta four times and other successes have followed.
Rugby has been immensely successful historically and we are currently Berkshire Champions for both XVs and VIIs. We also consistently produce County level hockey players and have made several regional finals in recent years.
Our pastoral care was rated as ‘Excellent’ in the most recent ISI inspection, and the College was recently recognised for our ‘Progress Score’ at Sixth Form level by a Department for Education report.
